Raiwasa Taveuni playmaker Daniele Yaya is keen to retain his spot in the Fiji 7s team to the second leg of the World 7s Series in Spain later this month.
The 25-year-old made his debut in the first leg in Dubai and was part of eleven newcomers in the team.
Yaya is currently in camp with the extended squad and is giving his best in training.
"At the moment the camp is going great and we are really taking advantage of training."
"For me, I take Dubai 7s loss as a lesson and learning from what saw us out of the cup final."
It was my first tournament and it did not go as expected but I think we all took out a lot of takes."
"I want to feature again in the Fiji 7s team and I really want to wear the white jersey throughout the year."
"It's not easy to get hands on that jersey because a lot of hard work and fitness is needed. We have the knowledge of 7s rugby but with that knowledge our fitness and efforts also matter."
Yaya said he has been working on ball possession and tackling- two areas which he feels he needs to improve on.
"Every player has some personal areas they want to improve and I'm also working on ball control and tackle."
"There were times when my passes felt short and I was not able to have a good grip on the ball so that’s what I really have been working on."
"Sometimes I missed crucial tackles which saw the opponents score a try and that's something I want to prevent at Malaga 7s."
"It's going to be a tough tournament and competition will be high because of New Zealand will also be playing but we will try our best," he further added.
