Back to back Dubai 7s winners Australia bowed out in the Women's Cup semifinals of the Malaga 7s after losing 29-26 to Russia in a thriller. Baizat Khamidova, Alena Tiron and Kristina Seredina's tries gave Russia a 19-14 halftime lead. Alysia Lefau-Fakaosilea and Demi Hayes got Australia's tries in the first half. Seredina scored her second and Russia's fourth try straight after the break but Maddison Levi's try in the 10th minute kept the Australian's in the match. Viktoriia Em's try in the 12th minute which was converted by Seredina sealed victory for the Russians. Maddison Ashby scored a late consolation for Australia. In the other semifinal, USA upset Olympic Games silver medalists France 14-10. Kyla Canett and Kris Thomas scored USA's tries in the first half which were both converted by Alena Olson while Carla Neisen and Jade Ulutule scored a try in each half for France.
