South Africa wins fifth consecutive title

Selvyn Davids scored a last gasp try as South Africa beat Argentina 24-17 to win the Malaga 7s in Spain this morning and claim its fifth straight title in the World Sevens Series.

The win also extended South Africa’s unbeaten run to 28 matches.

Argentina made a strong start in the final and scored first through Rodrigo Isgro in the first minute.

Isgro scored again in the third minute but the try was disallowed as he had received a forward pass.

South Africa found its rhythm just before the break and scored two tries through Davids and JC Pretorius to lead 12-5.

Joaquin de la Vega scored a double within 60 seconds of the second half to give Argentina a 17-12 lead.

And just when it seemed the Pumas had it in the bag, the Blitzboks hit back with a try to Justin Geduld to level up the match.

Davids had the final say of the match as he raced away from a tap and go penalty effort to seal victory.

Meanwhile, England won the Bronze medal after beating Australia 24-20.
