Coach Senirusi Seruvakula has included four overseas based players in his Rooster Chicken Fijiana 15s 32 member extended squad for historic two-test match against Japan and Wallaroos in Australia.
Former USA Rugby Eagle and Scion Rugby Club player Asinate Serevi, daughter of World Rugby hall of famer Waisale Serevi joins the team alongside GPS Rugby Club player Anna Nasalo, Canberra-based Brumbies Talei Wilson and rugby league convert Luisa Yaranamua from the West Habour Rugby club in Sydney.
Seruvakula said these players were always on his radar and he had always been in contact with them throughout the season.
“They are not new to the system but still need to prove themselves if they want a spot in the team to the World Cup.”
11 players out of the 32 member squad have had international test experience for Fijiana having played the likes of Samoa, Tonga, apua New Guinea and Hong Kong.
“The two test matches are a boost to their preparation for Rugby World Cup as we will be able to blend the right mixture and get to build a better combination.”
Seruvakula added that the test games would be different to the matches played in the Super W competiton, and they aimed to put on an a much improved performance.
Rooster Chicken Fijiana take on Japan at 5pm at Robina Stadium in Gold Coast on Sunday before facing the Wallaroos next week.
