9s tourney to kick off FNRL season

The 2022 Fiji National Rugby League season kicks off tomorrow with the Eastern 9s tournament in Suva.

16 men's teams and 8 women's will take part in the first of the tri-series scheduled for this year.

Tournament director Akuila Masi said they are excited to host the first 9s tournament since the revival of the State Leagues in 2021 and players can’t wait for their first match.

“The Eastern Nines is a qualifying event for the Fiji 9s finals that will be held on 16th April at Churchill Park.

“Only 8 men’s teams from the East will qualify for the Fiji Finals, so it will be a tough battle this Saturday.”

Matches begin at 9.30am at Bidesi Park.
