Nadi steal win, remain unbeaten

Nadi continued their unbeaten run with 16-15 Skipper Cup win over Nadroga in a cliffhanger at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

Nippy Nadi halfback Navitalai Druaomo scored first points off the boot from right in front after Nadroga conceded a penalty for being offside.

The guests looked to have all the control early but a mispass saw the home team capitalize, and quick ball movement saw openside wing Sevuloni Lutu crash over in the corner for the try to take the lead 9 minutes in, with the conversion away to the right.

The men in blue regained the lead when a second penalty was awarded on 22 minutes with Druaomo converting to regain the lead for the visitors before halftime.

Nadi extended their lead in the second half with some enterprising play ending up with fullback Semesa Muaidonu scoring their first try in the corner with Druaomo putting the conversion a sway.

The tide shifted again with the hosts going on the rampage, multiple infringements had Nadi backpedaling edging the Nadroga pack closer to the tryline.

Openside flanker Jiuta Biau ended off a move from the back of the scrum to score, with fullback Jack Volavola adding the conversion to take them infront 12-11.

Further turmoil for Nadi when blindside wing Jiutasa Nave was yellow carded for a dangerous tackle.

Nadroga capitalized on Nave’s exit with Volavola adding a further three points as Nadi’s scrambling defence once more infringed on the offside line.

The Stallions kept the Jetsetters on the back foot and in their own half as the Nadroga backline began to find its form.

Nadi stole the win at the death when a misjudged Nadroga lineout was retrieved by the men in blue.

Multiple phases from within their 22 metre line finished off with winger Solomone Tavai diving over in the corner to break Nadroga hearts.
