Waratahs overpower Fijian Drua

The Swire Shipping Fijian Drua were outclassed 38-14 by the Waratahs in Round 7 of Super Rugby Pacific at CBUS Stadium in Australia on Friday night.

The Fijians matched their more superior opponents in the first 15 minutes of play  and displayed some entertaining rugby.

However, the Aussies managed to get on the board through former 7s star Dylan Pietsch who outran the Drua defenders to score the first try.

Teti Tela had the chance to narrow the scores with a penalty a couple of minutes later but his attempt bounced off the uprights.

A loose ball from the Waratahs saw Tela perfectly scoop the ball and set up winger Vinaya Habosi to score for the Drua.

Tela converted to level up the game but the Waratahs did not seem to be intimidated and applied the pressure which saw Fijian Drua lose Captain Nemani Nagusa to a red card.

With an added man advantage, the Waratahs managed to get their second try through Charlie Gamble who charged over from a rolling maul to score.

Dave Porecki followed with their third try from another maul to give the Waratahs a 17-7 halftime lead.

The visitors introduced Wallabies Captain Michael Hooper in the second half to further fine-tune their game while indiscipline continued to haunt the Fijians as they had scrumhalf Frank Lomani sin-binned after a third infringement.

With two players short, the Drua had just too much ground to cover and this allowed Jed Holloway to cross over for their fourth try.

Hooper also got on the scoresheet with the fifth try before replacement Rusiate Nasove got the second try for the Drua.

A good combination by two players with Fijian links- Rahboni Warren-Vosayaco and Mark Nawaqanitawase saw the latter score in the corner to wrap up the big victory.
