Fijiana bows out in Cup semifinal

Fijiana bowed out in the Cup semifinals of the Toulouse 7s in France after going down 24-14 to New Zealand this morning.

Michaela Blyde scored a double to put New Zealand ahead early in the match before Reapi Uluinasau replied with one try and also converted as the Kiwis led 12-7 at halftime.

Sarah Hirini scored the third try for New Zealand but an individual brilliance from Aloesi Nakoci kept the Fijians in the contest.

Fijiana lost their shape in defence in the last two minutes and allowed Hirini to score another try and seal victory for the Olympic champions.

In the second semifinal, Australia proved too strong for Ireland and registered a big 40-7 victory.

The final between Australia and New Zealand will kick off at 3.56am while the bronze playoff between Fiji and Ireland starts at 3.07am.
