Gollings shifts focus to Commonwealth Games

As formidable names return to the fold, Fiji 7s coach Ben Gollings is now focusing on gearing his players toward the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

With two Olympic Games gold medals, and two Rugby World Cup trophies in the Fiji Rugby cabinet, Fiji has yet to attain a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games.

“We have got a few people coming in so we are just managing that at the moment because I want to get a look at players with the mindset of going to the Commonwealth Games,” Gollings said.

Experience folded back into the training squad includes 2016 Olympic Games gold medalist playmaker Vatemo Ravouvou and 2020 Olympic Games gold medalist Napolioni Bolaca who returns from his secondment with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua.

The duo are expected to add extensive game knowledge alongside seasoned starters in Jerry Tuwai and Waisea Nacuqu.

Meanwhile, the Fiji 7s are guests at this weeks Fiji Bitter Malomalo 7s tournament where they are preparing for the World Rugby Sevens Series Toulouse 7s in France.
