Makoe eyes seventh FACT title

Experienced defender Amani Makoe is aiming to win the Fiji FACT title for the seventh time but knows the task at hand will be tough as he will be guiding Nadroga who are under immense pressure to deliver on their home soil.

 

The 32-year old won the tournament three times each with Nadi and Rewa.

 

Speaking to FijiLive Makoe said the Nadroga last won the Fiji FACT in 2001 beating Labasa by 7-6 in penalties and after that they have not been successful though they made the eliminations."

 

"As hosts we have to put ourselves and our team to task."

 

"The team has to test the waters because it's a sink or swim situation for us."

 

"We are surviving in the League and that's a plus point that is motivating me and the other boys."

 

"We made a slow start in the League games but picked up back to back wins and went for a draw but we lost our cane somewhere and suffered defeats."

 

"Nadroga has a lot of potential to turn things around after 21 years and that can happen if we start taking each game as a test and solidify ourselves."

 

The Tabia native from Labasa who has scored two goals in the Digicel Premier League is currently working on improving in ball retention and possession holding aspects of his game.

 

"Well it's not new for me playing the nine rounds. I'm just glad Fiji Football has brought it back this year as we get more game time."

 

"I never underestimate any team and that's something we will do when we start our Fiji FACT campaign."

 

"I'm just working on giving my diagonal ball play by practicing this with lots of patience during the team training."

 

"Going into the tournament this year is special for me because I will be playing for Nadroga this time and I’m fortunate that my two sons Amani Makoe junior Keanu Makoe are a big boost for me."

 

"They remind me that I’m their role model and my responsibility as a father and husband. They will be on my mind when we hit the ground next week," he added.

 

Nadroga is on bye this week and will kick off the tournament against Tailevu Naitasiri at Lawaqa Park next week.
