Rising star Mark Nawaqanitawase scored a try as his NSW Waratahs staged a comeback to beat Moana Pasifika by 26-20 in Round 12 of Super Rugby Pacific yesterday.
Moana Pasifika made an impressive start after a penalty from Christian Lealiifano before Abraham Pole and Levi Aumua scored two converted tries for a 17-0 lead.
It took some time but the Waratahs bounced back in the match with a 28th minute try from Izaia Perese and David Porecki, both converted by Tane Edmed but Pasifika had a slender 17-14 lead at the break.
Moana continued with their mindful game play with a penalty from Lealiifano but minutes later the side were reduced to 14 men when Tima Fainga’anuku was flashed a yellow card for a foul play.
The Tahs took advantage of the situation after a wide ball was caught by Nawaqanitawase, who took a very long cut out pass and dived in the corner for their comeback try but conversion failed.
The Pasifika remained unsettled and this gave added advantage to the Tahs as Tane Edmed added the final try with a conversion from Ben Donaldson to seal the win.
