No Drua players for Flying Fijians

Flying Fijians Coach Vern Cotter will not include any Swire Shipping Fijian Drua players in his squad for the upcoming July tests.

With earlier plans to use a majority if not all Fijian Drua players, Fiji Rugby chief executive John O’Connor said that coach Cotter has decided otherwise.

“Initially we had thought we would want to use southern hemisphere based team,” O’Connor told FijiLive.

“But Vern is adamant that we are now preparing for the Rugby World Cup, and this is the start of the preparation.

“He wants a combination of experience and young players coming through.

However, it does not rule out the possibility of a few Fijian Drua players joining  the Flying Fijians with injuries to some key players in Europe.

“Viliame Mata is injured, so is Peceli Yato, so indeed it will be a combination to bring in some young players.”

The Flying Fijians are scheduled to play matches against Tonga, Samoa and Australia A.
