'Old boys' Tavatavanawai and Derenalagi to clash

Moana Pasifika speedster Timoci Tavatavanawai is excited and eager to face former Fiji Under 20 and  Queen Victoria School old boy Meli Derenalagi.

Tavatavanawai shared a room with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua skipper both while playing for Fiji and back in boarding school at Vulinitu.

“It’s going to be cool playing against the Drua boys, they’re like my brothers,” Tavatavanawai told moanapasifika.co.nz.

“I played with half of the team when I was younger, I’ve never played against them (Fijian Drua) so it’s going to be interesting.”

The Naikawaga Village winger said his family will be cheering on both teams when he faces his kinsmen, but weigh a little heavier towards his end of the pitch.

“My whole family back home in Fiji will be watching.

“They support Moana Pasifika and the Drua but they will be backing the Moana boys and I on Saturday.”

Tavatavanawai has been a season starter for Moana all season and will again expected to be a wrecking ball this weekend.

The match kicks off on Saturday at 4.35pm at CommBank Stadium.
