Flying Fijians forward Albert Tuisue scored a try for the London Irish but it was not enough as they suffered a narrow 19-18 defeat to Toulon in the European Challenge Cup quarterfinal today.
The London Irish had a quick start in the match with a fifth minute penalty from Paddy Jackson before the Fijian forward Tuisue rumbled over for the opening try from a thunderous rolling maul Toulon just could not repel and Jackson converted for a 10-0 lead.
A missed penalty from Louis Carbonel and both teams going down to 14 men did not harm Toulon as they managed to bounce back with two successful penalties from Carbonel.
London Irish led 10-6 at the breather.
Early errors by the Irish in the second half gave away a penalty advantage to Toulon which Carbonel took before the Irish went down to 14 men due to a sin bin and captain Charles Ollivon scored their comeback try and Carbonel converted.
It took some time for the Irish to bounce back with a penalty from Jackson but Carbonel's conversion extended Toulon's lead while Henry Arundell scored the last try for the Irish but Jackson’s missed conversion failed them to reach the semi-final stages.
