Vakatawa dots in Racing 92's loss

Fiji-born French centre Virimi Vakatawa scored a try for Racing 92 but  it was not enough as they went down fighting 20-13 against a tough La Rochelle in the Heineken Champions Cup semifinal today.

Unforced errors by La Rochelle gave away a penalty to Racing 92 which Nolann Le Garrec booted for 3 points before Fijian powerhouse Vakatawa showed his international experience to step back against the traffic and ground the ball for the opening try while Le Garrec converted to increase the lead to 10 points.

La Rochelle missed a penalty but France number eight Alldritt brought them back in the game after he drove over Le Garrec in a physical mismatch to reduce the deficit and minutes later Ihaia West slotted in a penalty.

Racing 92 led by 10-8 at half time.

Few discipline errors arose in the match and Racing was reduced to 13 men when Camille Chat and Cedate Gomes Sa were sin-binned while La Rochelle were awarded a penalty try.

Racing tried to bounce back in the match with a penalty from Le Garrec but La Rochelle sealed victory as West scored the late winner.

La Rochelle will face Leinster in the final on 28 May.
