$500k boost for Fiji Bati's campaign

The Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) received a $500,000 boost from the Fiji National Sports Commission today for Fiji Bati's preparation for this year’s Rugby League World Cup in England.

“Rugby League is one of those interesting sports that everybody forgets about, they are actually higher in the ranking than even our rugby 15s team, and we have always been proud of that” said FNSC executive chairman Peter Mazey.

“We have always been proud of how they perform especially at world cup level, and we have to consider that a large percentage Fijian athletes that play and earn a living overseas are in Rugby League.

“The Fiji National Sports Commission is honoured to help our Fiji Bati team go forward to this year’s Rugby League World Cup.”

FNRL chairman Rear Admiral (Retired) Viliame Naupoto thanked the Government of Fiji and the FNSC for their continued support and belief and that they looked to go one step further at the RLWC.

“We have gone upto the semifinals, we will look to go one step further,” Naupoto said.

“The support will allow us to continue and finish off the preparations that are currently ongoing.”

The Rugby League World Cup will be held from October 15 to November 19 in England.
