Botitu scores in Top 14 final

A late try from Castres inside centre Vilimoni Botitu was not enough as Montpellier secured a 24-10 win to claim the French Top 14 title for the first time.

Botitu scored the side’s lone try in the 75th minute of play but it was all too little too late.

Montpellier were in top form with three tries in 15 minutes through Arthur Vincent, Florian Verhaeghe and Anthony Bouthier with halfback Benoit Paillaugue kicking a conversion and two penalities to secure a 23-2 lead at halftime.

Flyhalf Paolo Garbisi and Henry Pollard added a penalty each in the second half to seal the deal.

Botitu will join the Vodafone Flying Fijians camp for the Pacific Nations Cup next week.
