Halves combination needs improvement: Rabele

Vodafone Fiji Bati Coach Joe Rabele says their halves combination needs to improve before the Rugby League World Cup.

The Bati struggled to unleash their big guns during their 24-14 loss to the Papua New Guinea Kumuls in their Pacific Test at Campbelltown Stadium on Saturday night.

"We'll try to work on that to prepare ourselves for the World Cup,” Rabele said during the post-match interview.

Rabele added the absence of Canterbury Bulldogs playmaker Brandon Wakeham also hindered his performance, with senior players pushed to fill the gap.

"Kevin Naiqama was playing in the halves today because of Brandon Wakeham's suspension.”

Alongside Wakeham Fiji has able options alongside Sitiveni Moceidreke, Kurt Donoghoe, Apisai Koroisau and Joe Lovodua in their extended squad for the world cup.

"It was a good build-up for us for the World Cup. We didn't get the job done but both teams played very well today(yesterday)."
