NZ thrashes Fiji in U20 championship

The Vodafone Fiji U20 side suffered a heavy 74-5 defeat at the hands of New Zealand in their opening match of the Oceania U20 Championship at the Sunshine Coast in Australia last night.

The Kiwis were unstoppable in the rain and ran in 11 tries during the rout.

New Zealand’s tries came through hooker Macca Spring, Noah Hotham, Peter Lakai, Adam Lennox, Wallace Sititi, Cam Miller, George Bell who got a brace and Fijian pair, Jona Rova and Nikola Vikena- the nephew of former All Blacks 7s player Amasio Raoma.

Miller added five conversions and a penalty with substitute outside back Luke Cashmore adding three more penalties.

Fiji’s lone try was scored by blind side winger Jope Naseara.

Meanwhile the Junior Wallabies lost to Argentina in their opening game 24-21.

Fiji play Australia in their next game on Tuesday.
