Manu Samoa coach Seilala Mapusua says there is no better way to start their preparations for the Rugby World Cup than the Pacific Nations Cup in Fiji.
Mapusua took a majority of his 30-man squad through their first session together at Albert Park today.
"It was a really great session and we're just trying to make sure we get our alignment right," Mapusua told FijiLive.
Samoa caters an extensive squad for the Pacific series with a mix of seasoned veterans and new finds, including, 10 players from the Super Rugby franchise Moana Pasifika.
"We have players from all over the world, and we want to make sure we have everyone on the same page."
COVID-19 disrupted the sides' preparation, yet Mapusua is confident it will not hinder their progress.
"It has presented a lot of disruptions, but 8t has also provided a lot of opportunities, especially for our southern hemisphere-based players."
Mapusua added players will have to put their hands up during the series to cement their spot at next year's Rugby World Cup.
Samoa takes on Australia A in their Pacific Nations Cup opener at 1pm at the HFC Bank Stadium on Saturday.
