Silktails are now a foreign club: Naupoto

Fiji National Rugby League chairman Rear Admiral (Retired) Viliame Naupoto says they are no longer affiliated with the Kaiviti Silktails.

Naupoto cleared the air on the current tension between the two parties saying the Silktails had violated an agreement between them and the FNRL.

“They unilaterally pulled our memorandum of understanding (MOU) that we had with, that we would allow them to be part of the FNRL and operate as an affiliate club that would allow them to come in to Fiji to operate just like a Fiji club,” Naupoto said.

“I am not sure why the MOU was cancelled, but they are still there and we are very mindful that we have Fijian players with the Silktails.”

The Silktails have now been operating as a standalone club for the last five months.

While some policies remained the same, the Silktails now operate as a foreign club.

Naupoto said talks continue between the two parties.

“There are talks right now in trying to set things straight, as far as we are concerned they can operate the way they are operating, but they will have to come in like any other foreign club and pay the relevant fees as well as the approvals needed from the FNRL.
