Talks with Drua ongoing: Rawaqa

Fiji U20 Coach Ifereimi Rawaqa says the management is in talks with Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Coach Mick Byrne over the possible inclusion of some youngsters in the Super Rugby Pacific squad for the new season.

The former Flying Fijians lock from Vuda said Drua officials have visited their camp and are monitoring the progress of Fiji U20 ruggers.

“We have had talks, but nothing solid yet, who knows maybe some players will go after the U20 championship,” Rawaqa told FijiLive.

Rawaqa said it is a great sign especially with the pathway in line for keeping Fiji players playing for the country.

“That is one thing we want to work on, especially with the Drua, we want them to go through that process, because the 20’s is part of the pathway, so we can have our schoolboys come through this level to the high performance unit.”

Rawaqa is confident of having a good number of Fiji U20 reps represent the Flying Fijians, the Fiji 7s team and the Drua but will look to it after the Oceania Rugby Under 20 Championship.
