Fijiana aims to win gold in Birmingham

Fijiana 7s Captain Rusila Nagasau says their aim is to win Gold at the Commonwealth Games later this month.

Nagasau says the side is boosted by their bronze win at the Olympic Games last year and their consistent performance in the recent HSBC 7s Series.

"We have only one aim and that is to win gold at the Commonwealth Games.

"All teams will come prepared and it won’t be an easy competition but we have also been preparing and just players need to give in their best."

"We played in the 2018 Commonwealth Games but unfortunately we bowed out in the quarterfinals after losing to Australia."

"But the message is very clear to the girls that if we can win bronze at the Tokyo Olympics then there is a huge possibility that we can win Gold at the Commonwealth."

"After the Tokyo Olympics, the girls continued their hard work and every player understands the importance of the Commonwealth."

The Fijiana 7s team is drawn in Pool B with Australia, Scotland and South Africa.

The 7s competition at the Commonwealth Games will be played on the 29th and 30th of July with semi-finals, play-offs and final on July 31st.
