Mataele is a spark player: Cotter

Vodafone Flying Fijians Coach Vern Cotter is expecting Manasa Mataele to find freedom in his new role at fullback against Australia A in their second Pacific Nations Cup fixture in Lautoka tomorrow.

The specialist  Western Force winger fills in as Fiji’s last line of defence Cotter is confident the former Marist Brothers High School student will impress and do a lot of damage.

“Manasa has a good understanding of the back field game and he is a spark player and it is an opportunity for him to step up.”

Mataele takes over from Setareki Tuicuvu who gets a rest.

“Seta (Tuicuvu) has played a lot of rugby for his club Brive this year, he was tired and we feel we need to experiment and put somebody else in 15.”

Cotter added he looked forward to seeing what Mataele could do in open space.
