Waqanidrola's experience adds spark: Cole

Digicel National Women's football Head Coach Lisa Cole says Fiji's lone female ambassador to the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Naomi Waqanidrola has added the right spark in the team ahead of the OFC women's Nation’s Cup.

Cole believes Waqanidrola’s role as a former player and now as an assistant coach has boosted the players and she is helping the team go in the right direction.

She also said Waqanidrola’s inclusion has helped largely in the right communication flow within the team.

"It's been great. I think Naomi can speak to the players about things from a player's perspective, but she can also see things from a coach's perspective."

"It's all about communication."

"She's looking across the backline specifically, because she's mostly worked with that group and says, you need to be forward here or look for the drop here, read these cues."

"So I think it's been good because the relationship is easier. Maybe sometimes when the head coach is speaking, they're like a little bit more fearful when she can speak to them and be like, hey, think about this, think about that."

"And I think she can also speak to them about what they're worried about, and speak with them about like, okay, what are you seeing what's not seeing and then she can relay that information to me."

"If I know where what they're worried about or what they're thinking about in those moments, I can help them understand why I'm asking them to do things like I'm asking them to do, or I can adjust what I'm asking them to do based on what they're worried about and what they're seeing."

"Because there's no one way to play football, there's a million ways to play football. But everybody in our team needs to be on the same page and teamwork work is really important," she added.
