Vosanibola’s trial to begin next week

The Magistrates Court has ruled against former SODELPA Member of Parliament Peceli Vosanibola’s application, opposing the Agreed Facts filed last year.

The matter was called before Magistrate Pulekeria Low this afternoon.

The hearing was scheduled to begin this week; however, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption said they were not ready as 13 of the 15 witnesses were unavailable.

FICAC’s lawyer told the Court they had difficulty finding the witnesses as they were not present at the addresses they provided.

They also told the Court that the Court Registry did not file the summons till April 23 and after numerous follow-ups, nothing has been released to them.

Magistrate Low said she is fixing the trial date to  20 May to 30 May, as scheduled

Vosanibola is charged by the Fiji Independent Commission against Corruption with one count of giving false information to a public servant and one count of obtaining financial advantage.

Vosanibola is alleged to have falsely stated that his permanent place of residence was in Navuloa Village, Bureta, in Ovalau, Lomaiviti, and allegedly obtained $19,749.50 between August 2019 and March 2020.

The matter has been adjourned to 20 May, 3pm for hearing.
