Young Goundar saves Suva in stalemate

Youngster Neerav Goundar’s second half strike saw Suva hold an experienced Labasa outfit to a 1-1 draw in Round 3 of the Digicel Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

The match saw early drama with yellow cards flashed to Labasa’s Ashneel Raju and Suva’s Remueru Tekiate.

The Whites missed a golden chance when Labasa goalkeeper Simione Tamanisau ventured out of the box, but the defence held strong, averting the threat.

Labasa dominated the first half with aggressive attacks, culminating in Luke Savu’s goal just before halftime, giving the Babasiga Lions the lead.

Suva made strategic substitutions, bringing in Ravnesh Karan Singh and Amitesh Krishna in the second half.

Singh made an impact and delivered a powerful strike which was tapped away by Tamanisau, but Goundar seized a crucial opportunity to equalize for Suva, finding the back of the net and bringing the scores level.

Despite both teams pushing for a win, the match ended in a draw.

Flick Suva now has 2 points from three matches while Extra Supermarket Labasa has 2 points from two outings.
