Fiji swimmers Olympics selection in July

Swimming Fiji will receive confirmation by July 2024 on which athletes will be selected by World Aquatics for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.

The selected swimmers will compete at The Aquatics Centre in France, the only permanent sports facility built specifically for the Paris 2024 Games, from July 26th to August 11th, 2024.

Fiji has a long history of participation in Olympic swimming, dating back to the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.

The inaugural team included swimmers like Gordon Petersen, Samuela Tupou, Warren Sorby, and Sharon T. Pickering.

The tradition continued with Sharon T. Pickering and Warren Sorby competing in their second Olympics in 1988 in Seoul, South Korea, alongside newcomers Angela Birch, Cina Munch, and Jason Chute.

The 1992 Barcelona Olympics featured Sharon T. Pickering for her third time, along with Foy Gordon Chung and Carl Harvie Probert.

Carl Harvie Probert became a notable figure in Fiji swimming, representing the country in four more Olympics (1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008).

Caroline Pickering joined him in the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Olympics.

More recently, the 2012 London Olympics saw Matelita Buadromo and Paul Elaisa represent Fiji.

Matelita returned for her second Olympics in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, accompanied by Meli Malani.

The latest representation came in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with newcomers Taichi Vakasama and Cheyenne Rova participating.

Despite their ongoing participation, Fiji is yet to secure a medal in the sport.
