Temo to rule on Bainimarama, Qiliho bail application

The Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo will rule on the bail application pending the appeal case of former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, next Thursday.

Suva lawyer, Davenesh Sharma confirmed that he has applied for bail, pending an appeal on the conviction that was earlier passed down on the duo.

This morning both the Appellant and the State made submissions on their reasons to as why both Bainimarama and Qiliho should and should not be released from the Korovou Corrections Facility.

Bainimarama has been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment, while Qiliho has a 24-month prison sentence.

Bainimarama has been convicted of one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice, while Qiliho has also been convicted of one count of abuse of office.

The matter has been adjourned to 30 May, at 11am.
