Walesi report will be made public: Kamikamica

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade Manoa Kamikamica says he will not hesitate to release the findings of the Office of the Auditor-General on its investigations into Walesi Fiji once it is complete.

Speaking to FijiLive, Kamikamica said their initial thoughts on the setup of Walesi, the lack of proper due diligence, the significant amount invested by the FijiFirst Government into Walesi, and others have been revealed in the technical assessment that’s now with Government.

Kamikamica said right now they are waiting for the Office of the Auditor-General to complete its findings, which will be tabled to Cabinet before it is made public.

He said the report will come out later this month.

“Put it this way, the type of concerns we had, has not deviated from what we are seeing now… We want to do it properly and it has taken a bit of time because we were trying to work on it, but the funding for the technical assessment did not come until towards the end of 2023.”

Kamikamica said a staggering $125 million was spent on setting up Walesi, which should have only cost the Government $30 million.

He added that another $42 million was used by the FijiFirst Government in the Telecommunication Development Trust Fund to fund other aspects of Walesi.
