Byrne eyes away wins for team growth

Swire Shipping Fijian Drua Head Coach Mick Byrne says it is important to secure away victories as the team prepares to face the Melbourne Rebels following home wins against the Waratahs and Western Force.

“We need to show ourselves that we can deliver away games,” he said.

“Home and away games are an advantage for different teams, if we want to grow as a team and take this team to where we believe it can go, we have to start winning away games.”

“We need away wins in order to secure a spot in the finals, that’s why it’s an important game for us against the Rebels,” said Byrne.

He pointed out that a strong start and finish are vital in the match.

“I think the main focus for us in away games is to start well from the kick-off and end well also.”

He anticipates a “tough battle” against the Rebels and stresses the necessity for the Drua to match their opponents’ intensity and physicality.

The Fijian Drua will face Melbourne Rebels this Friday at 8.35pm.
