Driscoll praises Naiqama’s commitment

Kaiviti Silktails Executive Director Stephen Driscoll says Coach Wes Naiqama’s achievement of being awarded the Fiji Bati’s All Time Leading Point Scorer Award is a testament to his commitment to Fiji.

Driscoll, a long-time comrade of Naiqama said his dedication goes back along way and rose to another level after hanging up the boots.

“Wes always made himself available for Fiji right back at the 2006 World Cup Qualifying Campaign, where he and Daryl Millard were the only NRL players we had in our squad,” Driscoll said.

“For me, this award is not just recognition for his wonderful point scoring achievements but more for the commitment to Fiji where he would be the first to put his hand up to play when others wouldn’t.

“Since his retirement, Wes has continued to give back to Fiji Rugby League working as the Fiji Bati Assistant Coach during the 2017 World Cup Campaign, where Fiji finished semi-finalists for a third time in a row. He was also part of the 2019 Pacific Cup campaign that saw Fiji qualify as a tier one nation at the end of that calendar year.”

“Now as Head Coach for the Kaiviti Silktails, he is overseeing the Elite Development of local Fijian talent. Under his guidance, the Silktails have produced 1 NRL Debut, 2 NRL Top 30 Contracts, 5 Fiji Bati Test Caps, 4 French First Division Contracts, and even a Fiji Sevens Rugby debut.

“An amazing accomplishment for Wes.”
