The Fijian Elections Office has launched its new School Election Toolkit, ensuring transparency and credibility in the electoral processes in the selection of elected leaders in Student Council Bodies.
The programme is being piloted across 10 schools in the Central Division.
Speaking at the Election Tool Kit launch and ahead of the Student Council Election for Rishikul Sanatan College, Acting Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataciwa praised the students and teachers for ensuring that the process is transparent and credible.
Mataiciwa said this initiative is of great importance as it allows students first-hand experience in the electoral process and practice the democratic principle of electing their student body leaders.
She said the successful student selected must remember that to lead is to serve.
“For the successful candidate that will become the new Student Council President should remember to lead is to serve. If you wish to have a position of honour, of high standing, then serve.”
“Serve with honesty, humility, fairness and compassion and don’t be afraid to step into the fullness of your leadership position,” Mataiciwa said.
Meanwhile, the schools involved in the pilot Election Tool Kit programme include Bau Central College, Vunimono High School, Dilkusha High School, Jeremiah College, Marist Brothers High School, Suva Muslim College, Rishikul Santan College and Noco Secondary School.
