Kiwi’s dash Fiji’s hopes of another HK 7s title

Fiji Airways Fiji 7s were narrowly defeated by New Zealand with a final score of 12-19 in the Cup Quarterfinal of Hong Kong 7s.

The game started with New Zealand’s Regan Ware quickly putting points on the board with a try and successful conversion, giving NZ an early lead of 7-0.

Fiji responded energetically in the 4th minute when Ponipate Loganimasi scored a converted try under the post, equalizing the score at 7-7.

The Fijian momentum continued with rookie Joji Nasova adding another try in the 6th minute, although the conversion was missed, making it 12-7 to Fiji at halftime.

The second half saw continued pressure from both teams.

After a balanced start, Xavier Tito-Harris of New Zealand scored a try in the 12th minute, with the referee consulting the TMO for a possible high tackle by Fiji.

Ultimately, no card was given, and NZ was awarded the try, with the unsuccessful conversion leveling the score at 12-12.

In a decisive moment at the 14th minute, Tone Ng Shiu secured the winning try for New Zealand under the post, followed by a successful conversion, leading to a final score of 19-12 in favor of New Zealand.
