Suva Football Association has appointed Shabneel Prasad as its new head coach following a significant decision made by President Intiaz Khan.
The move comes after former coach, Inosi Cawanikawai, was relieved of his duties for not adhering to Suva FA’s vision and making inappropriate comments on social media.
Khan said Cawanikawai’s actions were unethical and not in line with the team’s standards.
“It was unethical for him to take his frustrations to social media and make bad comments,” he explained.
This prompted the decision to appoint a new coach who aligns better with the Association’s goals and ethics.
Prasad, who previously served as the youth coach for Suva has been associated with the district for the last four to five years, primarily focusing on development.
“I am so happy with him; because of him, the team is there and because of him, we have enough players,” said Khan.
Prasad’s experience extends beyond the youth team; he recently coached Suva TIV when the team played in the finals two weeks ago, and he successfully led the team.
Additionally, in 2023, he coached Navoli Sanatan in Labasa, leading them to the finals as well.
The new role as head coach comes with its challenges, but Khan believes Prasad is up for the task.
“It will be a huge pressure on him, he is a youth development officer and understands the culture, so it’ll be easy for him to coach the youth players,” Khan added.
