Young Seru pens Silktails deal

Former Queen Victoria School Head Boy Tomasi Seru has inked a one-year deal with the Kaiviti Silktails for the 2023 season.

Head coach Wes Naiqama said roping in the youngster was an added boost to the side.

“I had first approached him earlier last year, and he wanted to finish off his last year in school which we supported and totally understood,” Naiqama told FijiLive.

“I came back in September and got a chance to watch Tom and a few other boys who are with us in our squad play for the Fiji Schoolboys against Australia, and it was really good.

Naiqama said there were plans in place for the young Coca-Cola Games senior discuss record breaker to head off to join a prestigious rugby league franchise in Australia but feared it may be too early.

“We figured being one year away from home would be too much too quickly, so one year with the Silktails would allow for a much smoother transition, and it is great to have someone of Tom’s caliber in the squad for this season.”

Seru hails from Ketei Village on Totoya Island and has already begun his off-season training with the team in Lautoka.
