Suva and Army flanker Vitalini Mirimi is hopeful for a chance to impress during this year’s ANZ Marama Championship and earn a spot in the Fijiana 15s.
The 25-year-old soldier from Tailevu said it was her focus to wear the jersey this year.
“I am a former Fiji 7s squad member, so it has always been an aim to wear the jersey for Fiji,” Mirimi said.
Mirimi said since the Fijiana 7s won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in 2021, the women’s game has skyrocketed in Fiji.
“Before there was always just a small group of female players available, and selectors did not have many choices.
“But now, there are hundreds of young women and girls playing the sport and eager to get to the biggest stage which is representing Fiji.
Mirimi said it also meant the challenge of earning a spot got harder.
“It comes with a lot of sacrifices and hard work; there is no gap to slack off.
“With faith, hard work and sacrifice, I am confident that I can get there.”
