Fiji Rugby Union plans to introduce a ‘Director of 7s Rugby’ role, eyeing rugby legends Waisele Serevi, Gareth Barber, or Ben Ryan for the position.
According to FRU Board of Trustees Chair Peter Mazey, all of these three have indicated their desire to assist Fiji Rugby.
He said, the role is envisioned as an advisory position rather than full-time, with final decisions yet to be made.
Meanwhile, Ian Gibbons, a high-performance coach with a distinguished background in Rugby 7s and XVs, joins the team as the Strength and Conditioning Coach.
With previous experience at Saracens Rugby, the US Men’s Soccer team, Seattle Seawolves, and the Japan Rugby Union, Gibbons teams up with consultant Naca Cawanibuka.
The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s side has already reported positive impacts from Gibbons’ contributions since his arrival before the Vancouver 7s tournament.
