Ba triumphed with a 6-0 victory over the Nadi, overcoming challenging conditions in the opening round of the Digicel Women’s Super League at the Fiji FA Academy ground in Namosau yesterday.
Seasoned campaigner Luisa Tamanitoakula led the scoring with a hat-trick in the clash while national striker Cema Nasau netted a double and Koleta Likuculacula scored one.
The game started off at an aggressive pace, seeing both teams launching attacks in the first 20 minutes.
Nadi made three attempts at goal, with two being skillfully saved by Ba’s and national goalkeeper Mereseni Waqali.
Midfielder Aliza Hussein missed four potential goals for Ba, each hitting the crossbar.
However, Ba’s offense was undeniable, with Nasau, Tamanitoakula, and Likuculacula securing four goals in the first half.
As heavy rain poured down in the second half, the game’s pace significantly dropped.
After just five minutes of play, officials were compelled to pause the match for 15 minutes due to the severe weather.
The rain left the ground with excessive water puddles, making the game challenging for both teams.
Nevertheless, Tamani and Nasau managed to navigate through the difficult conditions, each adding another goal to their tally in the second half.
