The Fijian Government through the Ministry of Communications will work with the UK Government to frame and review Fiji’s cyber capacity, in preparation for the forthcoming national cybersecurity strategy.
This announcement comes following the Inaugural Pacific Cyber Capacity Building and Coordination Conference in Nadi, last year.
In a joint statement between the Fijian Government, the UK Government and Oceania Cybersecurity Centre, they said that the review has been designed to ensure that it addresses the local context and is aligned with existing consultations to minimalize duplication.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Responsible Manoa Kamikamica said this primarily further enhance Fiji’s cybersecurity capacity, employing a global and comprehensive framework for the country.
Kamikamica said the review provides a holistic assessment of each country’s national capacity to manage complex cyber risks and identifies areas for improvement.
He said a lot of progress has been made in bolstering Fiji’s cyber capabilities since 2015 – identifying our strengths and weaknesses and develop tailored strategies to improve Fiji’s overall resilience to cybersecurity.
Also speaking, deputy High Commissioner, British High Commission Nicola Noble, highlighted that building on the commitment made, the UK Government is delighted to be working in partnership with Fiji to help advance Fiji’s needs on the cyber front.
Through this project, the Fiji Government, the UK Government and OCSC are taking meaningful steps to implement the changes asked for by Pacific delegates at the 2023 P4C.
