As the 2024 Coca-Cola Games draw near, the Fiji Police Force is stepping up to ensure the safety and security of all participants and spectators.
Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, warned that officers would strictly enforce road safety regulations, including the confiscation of flags used dangerously by spectators in moving vehicles and addressing unruly behavior on public transport.
Traffic safety is a priority, with awareness campaigns underway in collaboration with the Land Transport Authority.
To address concerns about underage nightclub access, which has been a recurring issue in past years, police are coordinating closely with nightclub operators.
Additionally, community policing officers across all divisions are working alongside schools to monitor travel and accommodation arrangements for students.
Moreover, the police will focus heavily on preventing drug-related activities at the games and will utilize both the Fiji Detector Dog Unit and Police Dog Unit to deter and detect illegal substances.
The ACP called for community support to help ensure the safety of students both during and after the games, as well as during the school holiday period.
