The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team engaged in a scrimmage training session with the champion Uluinakau Rugby team as part of their ongoing preparations.
The national team’s coach Saiasi Fuli spoke about the importance of these sessions in testing the team’s strategies and overall cohesion.
“It’s quite hard to get 7s teams, we are lucky that Uluinakau managed to come today and do scrimmage with us today and Thursday,” said Fuli.
He explained that these sessions are crucial for testing the team’s combination plays, defensive structure, and ability to maintain connectivity on the field.
“We can see the energy and the intensity is there. We’ve prioritized that after Hong Kong, to see how mentally tough they are especially when they are tired on the field and we need to continue to encourage them to put in extra efforts.”
The scrimmage with Uluinakau proved to be exactly what the team needed to fine-tune their defensive tactics, challenging the players both individually and collectively.
“Uluinakau tested us perfectly in terms of our defensive shape and that’s what we need to do to challenge the girls both individually and as a team,” Fuli said.
