FRA urges drivers to be cautious on road

The Fiji Roads Authority has urged all drivers to be vigilant and maintain caution while driving during heavy periods of rain and avoid flooded roads and landslides.

This, as most areas in the central division have reported surface flooding, while some areas in the west are accessible only to 4×4 vehicles.

In a statement, FRA said with heavy rain still being experienced in parts of the country, flash floods will be expected as the soil has been heavily saturated due to heavy rain experienced last week.

FRA said roads and areas affected yesterday in the Central Division were Vuci South Road, Ratu Kadavulevu Road, Wainibokasi Road, Vunivaivai Bridge, Wailase Road, Vunidralavula Road, Savu Road, Muaniweni Road and Rarabici Road.

As of this morning, affected areas in the Central Division are Navua areas, Waiyanitu Road is closed to all traffic and Wainadoi Old Queens Road is open to 4×4 vehicles only.

Roads in the Western Division that are closed for traffic are Arolevu Crossing, Nadi, Chuni Lal Crossing, Nadi, Kavanagasau Rd- Raiwaqa Crossing, Sigatoka, Kavangasau Rd, Sigatoka, Lokia Crossing, Buabua 1st Crossing, Lautoka, Abaca Rd, Buabua Rd, Drasa Dam Rd and Vakabuli Indian School Rd.

Navilawa Rd – Deck washed out and is closed to all traffic, Katudrau crossing is underwater, Vatukacevaceva Road – approach washout and is underwater, Nararavau road – approach washout – crossing underwater.

The Fiji National Disaster Management Office is reminding members of the public not to attempt to cross flooded rivers, streams, roads, and crossings.
