Historic highest paid price for rice farmers

Rice farmers in the country received the best Christmas gift as Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises, Sitiveni Rabuka announced the highest price paid for two grades of rice paddy supplied to Fiji Rice Limited.

The revised price for grade 1 has increased from $850 to $1000 per tonne (17.65 per cent) and for grade 2, from $750 to $800 (6.66 per cent).

This is the highest price paid to the rice farmers in history.

The Prime Minister while announcing the price said that our food security and import bill reduction are very important.

He said that the Coalition Government is committed to revitalizing not only the rice industry but other agriculture sectors that have huge potential. The new price takes immediate effect.

Chairman of Fiji Rice Ltd, Raj Sharma has thanked the Prime Minister for accommodating the request.

This would benefit over 500 rice farmers who are expected to supply over 2000 tonnes of paddy coming season.
