Elderly man dies after alleged assault

A 68-year-old man died after he was allegedly assaulted by  a heavily intoxicated man while waiting for a bus along Cunningham Stage 4 with his son.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACP) Livai Driu said the suspect confronted the two, resulting in heated verbal exchanges.

The suspect allegedly punched the victim where he fell unconscious on the road.

He was rushed to the Tamavua Health Centre where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.

In a separate case, a 28-year-old man whilst being escorted to the Wainbokasi Hospital for a medical check, is alleged to have damaged the rear glass of a police vehicle.

The suspect was intoxicated during the incident.

ACP Driu said the unfortunate incidents serve as a reminder that the excessive consumption of alcohol can lead to a lifetime of regrets, and the suffering of innocent parties.
