COC needs to act swiftly on Qiliho: Tikoduadua

The Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua is calling on the Constitutional Offices Commission to act on the decisions of the High Court after the suspended Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho was found guilty of one count of Abuse of Office.

Speaking to FijiLive, Tikoduadua said that the COC needs to decide what needs to be done because they have the powers to do so and not him.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has also said that Qiliho’s contract would cease after the Magistrates Court enters his conviction in the Court Record.

Rabuka said that Qiliho’s fortnightly salary would stop thereafter.

Tikoduadua has said he would take his cue from the Constitutional Offices Commission but cautioned the Government that there is a legal process pending in the Courts that needs to be completed first.

Tikoduadua said this is an ongoing process that would be completed this Thursday.

“We (Government) want to follow the law, but the COC will need to make its decision,” Tikoduadua said.
