Fijiana graciously bows out in semis

The Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team graciously bowed out of the Singapore 7s Women’s semifinal after losing 33-22 to New Zealand at the National Stadium today.

The much more experienced and classy Kiwis started the match attacking and scored quick tries through Stacey Waaka, Jorja Miller, Michaela Blyde and Risi Pouri-Lane to lead 26-0 .

Fijiana Captain Raijieli Daveua was sin-binned for an illegal tackle and despite a player short, the side managed to score their first try of the match just before halftime through Ilisapeci Delaiwau to trail 26-5 at the break.

Daveua returned to the field and got the second try for Fijiana as they tried to apply the pressure.

But a second Blyde try had the match in the bag for New Zealand although Fijiana kept working hard and scored two more tries through Delaiwau and Laisana Likuceva to end the semifinal with a respectable scoreline.
