The Methodist Church has written to Fiji’s President, His Excellency, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere highlighting their concerns on the counting of votes and the inconsistency of the electronic results management system.
Church President, Rev Dr Ili Vunisiwai said the event on the night of 14 December where there was a glitch in the Fijian Elections Office app cast doubts of the provisional results…while there were explanations of the glitch provided, it was not convincing to restore the confidence of our members, particularly Fijians.
Rev Vunisiwai said since this is not the first time this has happened, the Church is deeply concerned with the continuous anomalies in the FEO and wishes to advise that they have lost faith and confidence of the affairs of this institution and its system.
“The Church had hoped that such institution and its systems… the Church has hoped that such institution would be flawless due to the significance of this national event to our beloved nation.”
“The Church will continue to uphold justice, democracy, good governance and integrity,” he added.
The leader of the Church pleaded to take their concern seriously.
Rev Vunisiwai said that it was their hope that due prudence will be provided to those who seek justice.
He said the Church proposes that the counting is validated manually, given the anomaly experienced with the electronic result’s management system.
