In the first quarterfinal of the Hong Kong 7s, the Fiji Airways Fijiana women’s team faced a tough challenge against the USA, ultimately going down 33-7.
The match started with the USA’s Kristi Kirshe scoring the first try in the 4th minute, followed by a successful conversion by Alev Kelter, putting USA ahead 7-0.
Fiji quickly responded, with Buleki setting up Ana Naimasi for a try in the 5th minute, with Naimasi converting to level the score at 7-7.
However, the USA regained the lead as Kelter scored and converted her own try in the 7th minute, making it 14-7.
The first half closed with the USA extending their lead to 21-7 thanks to Steph Rovetti’s try in the extra time.
In the second half, the USA continued to dominate, with Ilona Maher scoring and Kelter converting to push the score to 28-7.
Fiji’s challenges compounded when Raijeli Daveua received a yellow card for a deliberate knock-on.
Kris Thomas then sealed the game for the USA with a final score of 33-7.
