Under new head coach Osea Kolinisau, no player is guaranteed a spot in the team and this has forced lanky Joseva Talacolo to work extra hard in the quest to retain his place.
The former skipper who played for Police Blue in the 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s in Suva in the weekend shared about the competitive atmosphere to instilled by the new coach’s policy.
“It’s been a competition getting into the Fiji 7s team. Like it’s been said, no spot is guaranteed in the squad that’s going for the Hong Kong 7s, and we have to work hard to get a spot,” he told FijiLive.
Talacolo also spoke about what it meant for him to represent Police Blue.
“It’s a great opportunity to play for the Police, that’s where I started before I was selected for the Fiji 7s team, and it’s a big opportunity too. Competition is good, it’s tough, every team has trained for this competition.”
He further mentioned the privilege of being coached by Osea Kolinisau, a former Fiji 7s player with a wealth of experience.
“It’s a big opportunity to be coached by Osea Kolinisau; he has been playing for Fiji 7s and has good experience, so it’ll be good,” Talacolo added.
Alongside Talacolo, other Fiji 7s players such as Jeremaia Matana, Suliano Volivolituevei, Filipo Bukayaro, Waisea Nacuqu, Terio Tamani, and Ratu Filipe Sauturaga also represented the Police team.
As the Fiji 7s team gears up for the Hong Kong 7s and sets their sights on the Paris Olympics, the message is clear: every player must prove their worth.
